Regular gloves can have a feeling of disconnect between the rider’s hand and the handlebars due to slippage between the shell and liner. That’s why all TOBE gear is made from materials that outlast and outperform your run-of-the-mill athletic gear. Designing the best outerwear on the market requires an approach that is rooted in science and enhanced by craftsmanship. We begin by sourcing the best technical fabrics available, and construct each piece of the product to meet performance standards independently, before bringing it all together. TOBE 2025 36 Page 33 TOBE 2025 SYMPATEX® Nothing ruins a day faster than having wet gear on a storm day, or feeling water seep through from a wet chairlift. Sympatex has a 45,000mm waterproof rating, a number you’re not likely to see printed on other technical fabrics. Higher numbers mean better ratings, and in an industry that takes these rating very seriously, TOBE’s ratings are as serious as it gets. CORDURA® To determine how quickly materials will break down over time, manufacturers use the Martindale abrasion resistance test. A mechanical thumb rubs the surface of the fabric repeatedly until the fibres start to break. 100,000 revolutions is the equivalent of a lifetime of wear and tear. A normal polyester fabric can survive around 25,000 revolutions. Many of our outerwear are fully made with abrasion resistant rip-proof Cordura fabric that easily passes 100,000 cycles of wear without any sign of broken fibres. ARMORTEX® In most of our outerwear we added Kevlar® Armortex® blend reinforcements to the knees and inside of the legs. This material is one of those magic modern materials that people talk about without really explaining any further. Bulletproof vests are also made with Kevlar, meaning this is the best protection you can have against sharp running boards or trees. And with an added layer of protection, you won’t think twice about taking a knee to fix or maintain your machine. YKK® AQUAGUARD® YKK AquaGuard® zippers are water repellent zippers with a PU film applied to the reverse side of the zipper chain and a DWR treatment to keep the water out of your garment. YKK manufactures around half of all zippers in the world. While you let that sink in we’ll go on and explain why that is. YKK simply makes incredibly dependable zippers and they deliver what they promise without fail.

While we make both shells and insulated gear we think it is equally important to talk about the different layers you should wear underneath. Dressing in layers is the tried and true way of staying dry and warm, regardless if you’re in the mountains, enjoying the challenging conditions above the arctic circle or roaming the trails on the vast and open prairie. TOBE 2025 66 Page 63 TOBE 2025 1ST LAYER When you get too warm your body starts sweating to cool you down, an amazing bodily ability. Although amazing, unfortunately, we do not want to be wet from sweat when we are outdoors in low temperatures. Enter your moisture management layer. As the name suggests the 1st layer is your next-to-skin layer and its job is to move perspiration away from your skin, aka “wicking”, to keep your skin dry. In cold conditions, wicking base layers are essential to keep you dry and warm. 2ND LAYER The insulating layer helps you retain heat by trapping air close to your body. Polyester fleece vests, jackets and tights are classic examples of insulation ideal for outdoor activities. They not only trap air but are also made with moisture-wicking fibers to help keep you dry. Natural fibers such as wool and goose down are excellent insulators. Wool sweaters and shirts (especially the new generation of merino wool products) offer soft, reliable warmth and keep on insulating even when wet. MERINO Merino wool provides natural insulation that allows the body to retain heat and maintain higher comfort levels. The natural crimp of merino fiber enables it to keep heat close to the body by trapping tiny air pockets within the fibers. Compared to traditional wool, merino is a smooth and fine fiber, which gives it a vastly superior texture and handle compared to traditional coarse wools.
